Located adjacent to Phillips 66 on North Eldridge, Brisket & Rice is a Michelin-recognized Texas Craft BBQ joint that blends traditional bbq favorites with Vietnamese flavors.
The North houston barbecue joint, head by Chef Hong Tran, partly resembles an old fashioned drug store, part small Texas town bbq shack with its rustic accents and iron splashes – all with a modern touch. The family-owned venue opens at 10 am on weekdays between, gathering lines by 11 am. That said, the space offers ample seating with many patrons taking their food to go as well as reducing the wait.
As for the menu. Brisket & Rice is “an homage” to how brother Phong and Hong Tran grew up in Brenham with Vietnamese parents. The restaurant offers classic barbecue staples; such features include prime brisket, fall-off-the-bone pork ribs, pulled pork, homemade sausage, and chicken.
Available sides include mac-n-cheese, cranberry almond slaw, street corn, loaded baked potato salad, chips, and Poorman’s macaroni. The latter is restaurant’s spin on nui xào bò, a stir-fried macaroni with beef traditionally served at Vietnamese restaurants in Houston.
For dessert, Brisket and Rice serves homemade banana pudding.
Its signature items are the venue’s namesake. Its Brisket & Rice (priced at $14), offers a Vietnamese twist on the dish, wherein two pieces of succulent brisket are laid atop a ball of wok-fired Jasmin fried rice tossed with Chinese sausage and fried egg. Chicken & Rice and BBQ Fried Rice are also house favorites. As an added touch, the venue has a Jones Soda Fountain for patrons choice of beverage.
Michelin recently featured Brisket & Rice in its “The Best Barbecue in Texas” list, giving the restaurant a glowing review among the best in the state.
