Stay cool this summer at the Blue Lagoon. Just a short drive outside Houston, the spring-fed swimming hole is tucked away in the East Texas Pineywoods of Huntsville. Here, Houstonians can swim, scuba, and/or simply embrace Caribbean vibes right outside the city.
The lagoon is actually composed of two former limestone quarries that, over time, filled with natural spring water. Today, they form two distinct bodies of water, both shaded by a dense canopy of tall, mature pine trees. The water itself is famously stunning—it boasts a vibrant, turquoise color and crystal-clear visibility.
While built on a natural body of water, the Blue Lagoon is a privately owned, privately operated facility with limited access. Before loading up the car, be sure to read below to find out how to swim/scuba at the Huntsville oasis.
