For the second time in its history, the Houston Astros have won the World Series, claiming the title of champions after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games!
The Astros World Series victory was a team effort, highlighted by standout performances from Jeremy Peña, Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, and others.
The first half of the Game 6 was relatively quiet, with the Phillies getting on the scoreboard first with a walk-off home run by Justin Shwarber at the top of the sixth inning. The Astros were quick to respond with Yordan Alvarez crushing a three-run homer at the bottom of the inning, taking a three-one lead.
Houston would close out the inning leading 4-1, and would keep it until the game’s end.
Before the final game, Jeremy Peña made history by becoming the first rookie to win the Gold Glove award. Peña also became the first rookie in World Series history to get a hit in the first 6 games. Astros outfielder, Kyle Tucker, also received the prestigious Gold Glove award.
The Houston Astros cinched their first World Series victory in 2017 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. However, their championship has since been marred in the wake of the infamous sign-stealing scandal.
In the meantime, the team has become the target of, well, let’s just say… haters. The Astros contended in the World Series three times since their title in 2017, but it was on Saturday night, the Astros put a swift silence to the naysayers – at least for the moment – by earning the title of World Series champions once again.
While we’re all here at Secret Houston elated at the victory, our joy is likely paled in comparison to Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, who has just netted a whopping $75 million prize after putting down $10 million on the Astros to win it all.
Don’t celebrate too hard tonight – or do, just save some energy for the Houston Astros World Series championship parade, which will soon be announced. Be sure to stay tuned for details regarding the parade. parties, and other festivities!
