Houston isn’t exactly known for its prominence of British culture. While one might not be all too surprised to happen upon a British pub in Montrose, say, one would register a more a delightful wonder to discover an English village in Northwest Houston complete with a 17,000-square-foot University of Oxford-inspired library, train, and cobblestone street.
3. Coffee Mugg
Just follow the spiders out to 1112 Morgan in Corpus Christi. Here, you’ll find the cozy little coffee den that is Coffee Mugg. Inside its pumpkin orange curtains, the shop appears like a set piece from the Gryffindor Tower common room. Outfitted with comfy furniture, autumnal flourishes, suspended jack-o-lanterns and house banners, the Latina-owned cafe makes for a charming space to snuggle up with a hot chocolate and read, or otherwise challenge a friend to a friendly game of chess.
While not necessarily in line with HP lore, Houstonians can find themselves in the company of wizards at The Hobbit Cafe. Just southwest of Montrose, the cafe has served magic kind since 1972 with a fantastic assortment of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and other Dwarvish dishes.
Saddle your broomstick and take a flight out to the cross streets of Slaughter Lane and Bungalow in Austin, Texas, where Texas couple, Joel and Amanda Pace, are transforming their lawn into the magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter once again. This year’s installation, made in the image of the Yule Ball, is expected to be ready by Thanksgiving.
